Learn more. My Studio. Logic Pro 8 Educational Discount? Does anyone know if there's an educational discount for Logic 8? Pro Studio? You're not serious. I recently have been hired as a temporary full time professor of music at a community college. One of the classes I'm teaching is "Introduction to Midi", or something like that.
All the desks have iMacs with Garage Band and Logic 7 installed. I use DP and a little PTle. So it might be time for me to actually buy LP8. But I don't want to. So this is really a legitimate educational discount needed here! Totally serious. According to the link mentioned, it indicates near the bottom of the page that "This software is not eligible for future upgrades.
I knew there had to be a gotcha! I'll look into this. My campus bookstore used to have this for sale, but a phone call said they didn't have it. I'm not sure she understood the words that were coming out of my mouth though. Does it really suck that it doesn't come with upgrades? Upgrades cost, what, like bucks? Apple Store for Education. I'm pretty sure minor tweaks would update when you run your normal software updates in System Preferences.
Ask the Apple education store rep. I don't get it. Is that actually a discount? And I did the Ed discount for Microsoft Office. Yeah I can't upgrade, but there are always updates. I haven't found the need to go beyond where I am yet. And if I do I can always just buy a new version. I guess the same thing applies here. It's a great deal and what does it matter if it doesn't come with an upgrade path? That's no "catch," that's a bargain!
It's a hell of a deal. Wish I could grab one. Here's an interesting thread on the L8 aca-disc versions -- and the very wide range of prices it's been available at recently: Apple - Support - Discussions - Bought Logic Studio 8 Academic; didn't I believe that Apple's Academic Discounts vary by how much Apple product a university or college moves. The low end of the discount is the same as the Apple Store for Education, and the highest discounts are for larger schools.
That's even cheaper than most single AU instruments out there, for all of Logic Studio! I'm a student living in wales, do you think I would be able to get logic at this price? Just thinking Let's hope that they are going to step up the pace a bit and really focus on making Logic the best that they can, and sometime way before I'm realizing an intersting conundrum in marketing this. There is no upgrade. That's basically why I started this thread. At that price it's a no brainer. It's cheaper to just buy the whole new Academic than it would be to pay for the regular upgrade.
